Mr Nuhu Mahama, the Oti Regional Director of Electoral Commission (EC), has pledged to ensure complete accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) at all polling centres on December 7, 2024.

Mr Mahama’s commitment was made during the launch of a seven-month project, aimed at promoting inclusion of Persons with Disability (PWDs) in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections by the Africa Disability Institute (ADI) in the Krachi East Municipality.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during an exclusive interview with measures for accessibility at polling stations, he explained that the commission was ensuring polling centers will be physically accessible for PWDs.

He mentioned that the commission was again providing staff training to assist PWDs during voting and implementing special voting arrangements for PWDs who will require assistance.

“By prioritising accessibility and inclusivity, EC demonstrates its dedication to upholding democratic values and promoting equal participation for all citizens”.

Other institutions together with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) representative had also pledged their support for a violence-free election period.

Their collective commitment was essential for maintaining peace and stability in the region.
