FIFA will hold a major meeting with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to discuss plans to introduce Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology into Ghana’s domestic leagues.

This two-day meeting will be held in Accra on October 31 and November 1, 2024.

The event, known as the “VAR kick-off meeting,” is the first step in FIFA’s Implementation Assessment Approval Program.

This program is required for any country wishing to use VAR technology.

Representatives from FIFA and the GFA will go over important details about the VAR project to make sure everything is ready for its successful start in Ghana.

FIFA’s team, including experts Inokuchi Takaaki and Michael Bailey, will be on hand to share their knowledge about VAR.

Leading the GFA team will be General Secretary Prosper Harisson Addo, joined by other officials such as Alex Kotey, Head of Referees and VAR Team Leader, and members from the legal, IT, competitions, PR, and referees departments.

The goal of bringing VAR to Ghana is to improve the accuracy of refereeing and to align Ghanaian football with international standards.
