The 1994-year group of the Old Students Association of Suhum Senior High Technical School (SUTESCO), has celebrated its 30th anniversary with a memorable award ceremony.
During the event, the association unveiled a digital signboard, which was installed at the junction leading to the school on the Suhum-Accra highway.
Mr. Benjamin Johnson Dorgbetor, President of SUTESCO Old Students Association 1994-year group, emphasized that “old students are permanent stakeholders of the school because parents will come and go, and teachers will come and go, but we who went through the school are the forever stakeholders.”
He noted that it was the responsibility of alumni to support the school and uphold its reputation.
Prior to the anniversary, the association refurbished the school’s National Science and Maths Quiz centre by painting, fixing air conditioners, and providing computers.
Mr. Dorgbetor, who is also a National Executive member of SUTESCO Old Students Association, stated that “When structural development and other necessities are improved, it motivates students to study hard, achieve good grades, and become well-meaning individuals who can contribute positively to the country.”
He encouraged students to make a positive impact on their lives using the available resources so they could eventually give back to their parents, the school, and the entire community and the nation as a whole.
Ms. Elizabeth Agyakwa, Headmistress SUTESCO, expressed gratitude to the members of the association for their generous support.
She urged various year groups to emulate the gesture and contribute to the school’s development, saying: “The government has constructed an assembly hall and classroom blocks, so old students can help provide us with desks and other educational materials.”
SUTESCO was established in 1963 with a student population of 71, but currently accommodates a student population of approximately 2,856.
The figure consists of 769 females and 2,087 males.
The school has adequate teachers, classroom blocks and a library.
During the celebration, several students received certificates of recognition in categories such as Best-Behaved Student, Best Students in Forms One and Two, and Best Performing Students in Business, General Arts, and other subjects.
The school’s slogan is “Abenfo.”
