The Ashanti Regional Council of Elders of the NDC Zongo Caucus is urging the youth of the party to desist from attacking government offices and officials following the party’s victory in the December 7 elections.
They should report suspicious characters and ulterior motives of duty bearers to appropriate law enforcement agencies rather than taking the law into their hands.
A statement issued by the Caucus and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, emphasised the need for young people of the party to uphold rule of law even in their quest to protect state property.
It said much as they had the right to stop wrongdoing by persons in the outgoing government, they must do it in a civilised manner in order not to court public disaffection for the party even before it assumes office.
Preventing looting of state property, the Caucus believes, is a civic responsibility of every well-meaning Ghanaian including the NDC youth, but the approach must not be violent.
The statement, which was jointly signed by Coordinator of the Caucus, Alhaji Sumaila Fuuta, and the Secretary, Alhaji Cardir Issifu Mohammed, also congratulated leadership of the NDC for the resounding victory in the just ended election.
It particularly applauded Ashanti Regional Executives for securing 33 per cent of votes in Ashanti and increasing its parliamentary seats from four to eight with two still outstanding.
The statement concluded by calling on all members of the party from the branch to the region to work together to consolidate the gains in the years ahead.
