Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh, the Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee, has reiterated the Committee’s commitment to fulfilling its mandate and enhance Ghana’s democratic process.

He stated this during the inauguration of the Committee by President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House in Accra on Thursday.Â
On behalf of the Members of the Committee, Prof Prempeh conveyed their most profound gratitude for the trust reposed in them by the President by giving them the responsibility to review and propose suitable amendments to the 1992 Constitution.

He said President Mahama’s naming and inauguration of the Committee upon assumption of office signaled the sincerity of his commitment to prosecuting to the end the Constitution Reform Agenda as a critical component of resetting Ghana.

“On our part, my members and I also pledge that we will return the trust with equal sincerity and seriousness and will pursue our task with the sole aim of bettering the fortunes of our people, setting us on a course of progress and development, and helping you, Mr President, to fulfill the pledge that you have made,” Prof Prempeh said.

“Once again, thank you very much for the trust that you have reposed in us.

We commit to working diligently within the next six months to produce a report that is fitting and suitable for our country and our dear nation.”Â
The eight-member Constitution Review Committee, Chaired by Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh, the Executive Director of the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), is expected to identify and address the gaps in, and the challenges with the implementation of previous constitution review work done by the 2010 Committee and make actionable recommendations aimed at enhancing democratic governance in the country.

The members are Dr Rainer Akumperigeya, a Legal Expert and Secretary to the Committee; Justice Sophia Adinyirah, a Retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Dr Godwin Djokoto, Senior Lecturer at the Ghana School of Law, Mrs Charlotte Osei, former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Dr Esi Ansah, Lecturer at the Ashesi University, Prof Kwame Karikari, former Executive Director of the MFWA, and Mr Ibrahim Tanko Amidu, a governance expert.Â
