Wa Municipal Assembly engages stakeholders on NSD re-launch 

The Wa Municipal Assembly has engaged the media and Assembly Members in the Municipality on the re-introduction of the National Sanitation Day (NSD) campaign to win their support and collaboration in implementing the campaign in the Municipality.  
The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs had announced plans by the government to reintroduce the NSD as part of a commitment to improving the sanitation situation of the country.  
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to relaunch the campaign on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 with the first nationwide cleanup exercise scheduled for April 5, 2025, and would be observed on the first Saturday of every month. 
Addressing the media in Wa, Mr Adam Moro, the Wa Municipal Coordinating Director, acknowledged the poor sanitation situation in the municipality but said the media had the ability to reverse the situation through sensitisation and education. 
He, therefore, appealed to the journalists and other media practitioners to use their platforms to mobilise the communities for the impending clean up exercise in the Municipality scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2025 as well as the monthly clean up exercises.  
“Creating awareness is key to encouraging active community participation and the media can use their platforms, the television, newspapers, and social media platforms to educate the public on the benefits of sanitation and the dangers of poor waste management.  
“Through your platform, we can reach out to traditional leaders, youth groups, religious bodies, and local organisations to encourage their involvement in this exercise”, he explained. 
Mr Moro also appealed for the support of corporate and Non-governmental Organisations in the Municipality in the clean-up initiative by providing the equipment needed for the exercise.  
He also hinted that the Wa Municipality would implement the letter, sanitation laws and regulations in the country to ensure compliance and said the media had a crucial role in that regard by highlighting the importance of adhering to sanitation regulations. 
He warned against interference in any form in the prosecution of sanitation offenders in the municipalities. 
Mr Moro indicated that the Assembly was considering an award scheme for Assembly Members who would take sanitation issues in their electoral areas seriously.
