Students will get instant feedback and help.

Students who use Google Classroom won’t have to wait until the end of the semester to see how well they’ve grasped a concept. Google has given a sneak peek at a new “practice sets” feature in Classroom that will allow teachers to track their students’ progress through automatically graded tasks. Students can get immediate feedback on their responses and ask for help via explainers and videos. Teachers, on the other hand, will be aware of which kids are having difficulty with a certain issue.

Google is currently testing Classroom practice sets with a small number of schools, with a beta release planned for the “coming months.” Teachers who have purchased the Teaching and Learning Upgrade as well as schools who have purchased Google Workspace for Education Plus will be able to use them. Early adopters are encouraged to register their interest in participating in the beta.

Classroom’s practice feature won’t always be useful. Not every exercise can fit into a web form, after all. When it is relevant, though, it could help teachers devote more attention to individual students or focus lesson time on concepts that stymie the class at large. Kids will ideally be well-prepared for tests, while educators can refine their courses.
