The Presidential Vetting Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that it gave fair hearings to all flagbearer aspirants during the vetting process, rejecting claims of special treatment for certain candidates. Media reports had previously claimed that some aspirants were unhappy with the process and called for a level-playing field. Mr. Osei Bonsu (OB) Amoah, the spokesperson for the Vetting Committee, addressed the media after the completion of the vetting process and debunked these assertions. He emphasized that the committee followed its mandate of ensuring that only qualified aspirants progressed to the next stage of the process. Mr. Amoah also stated that all aspirants were treated equally and fairly, regardless of their status or position within the party.

The Vetting Committee concluded its mandate after successfully vetting all ten aspirants hoping to lead the NPP as flagbearer in the 2024 election. The committee, led by Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, a former Speaker of Parliament, interviewed each aspirant, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former Trade and Industry Minister Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen. The committee will submit its report to the Council of Elders of the Party on July 10, 2023. Any disqualified aspirant will have 14 days to appeal. The NPP has set August 26 for a special delegates conference to trim down the number of candidates to five, and the National Congress for the election of a flagbearer is scheduled for November 4, 2023. The party is committed to following its timetable for the selection process.
