Record-Breaking Triumph: Ghana’s Athletics Team Shines with 24 Medals

Ghana’s track and field team achieved outstanding results at the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) II Senior Championship held in Lome, Togo. The team brought home a total of 24 medals, comprising 14 gold, eight silver, and two bronze medals. Their remarkable performance placed them among the top-performing countries at the championship, which featured teams from various African nations including Liberia, Benin, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Niger, and Ivory Coast, among others.

The Ghanaian female quartet showcased their speed and teamwork, clinching gold in the 4×100-meter relay with an impressive time of 46.08 seconds. On the men’s side, the Ghanaian team secured a silver medal in the 4×100 meters, completing the race in 39.71 seconds.

Ghana’s dominance extended to the individual events as well. In the highly competitive 100-meter dash, Barnabas Aggerh and Sarfo Ansah took first and second place, respectively, with impressive times of 10.40 seconds and 10.49 seconds. The long-distance events were also a triumph for Ghana, with Ishmeal Arthur, Bassit Afful, and Aziz Mohammed claiming gold in the men’s 10,000 meters, 5000 meters, and 1500 meters, respectively. Additionally, Noami Addo emerged victorious in the women’s 5000-meter race.

Ghana’s success was not limited to the track events, as they also excelled in field events. Benjamin Nimo achieved a commendable second-place finish in the men’s javelin competition. Aba Sam demonstrated her prowess in the women’s long jump, securing a silver medal with a Personal Best (PB) jump of 5.88 meters.

The outstanding performance of Team Ghana at the CAA Senior Championship serves as a significant morale booster as they prepare to host the African Games in March next year. The team’s remarkable achievements highlight the talent, dedication, and hard work of Ghana’s track and field athletes, showcasing their potential to achieve even greater success on the international stage.
