The engagement between Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), and Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, along with elders of the Muslim community, took place at the National Mosque in Accra. The purpose of the interaction was to strengthen relations between the Police and the Muslim community.

The engagement was part of the Police Service’s strategy to bring policing closer to the people and foster better relationships with faith-based organizations. Similar visits are planned to be conducted across the country to further enhance these relations.

This visit was part of the IGP’s regional tour of the Accra region, which began two weeks ago. During the tour, the IGP and his team have visited various police districts in the region, including Amasaman, Adjen Kotoku, Pokuase, Tesano, Mile 7, Achimota, Cantonments, La, Osu, Nima, Kotobabi, and Adabraka.

These visits provide an opportunity for the IGP to interact with police personnel in different districts, understand their challenges, and discuss strategies to improve policing and maintain public safety.

The engagement with Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu and the Muslim community signifies the importance of collaboration and cooperation between the Police and religious groups in ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
