The Chinese Communist Party (CPC), through its government and Embassy in Ghana, has extended a helping hand to victims of recent floods and coastal tidal waves in Ho, Ghana. The CPC presented relief items worth more than US$50,000, including consumables like rice, cooking oil, clothing, sachet water, mosquito coils, and medical supplies.
Mr. LU Kun, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, expressed that the gesture aimed to alleviate the suffering of the flood and tidal wave victims. He commended the efficient work of local authorities, including Municipal and District Assemblies and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), in handling the relief efforts.
Furthermore, Mr. Kun highlighted the contributions of China to various projects in the Volta region, such as the funding of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS). He expressed hope that UHAS would play a significant role in nurturing medical professionals and supporting Ghana’s “Agenda 111” to improve healthcare delivery.
Mr. Stephen Ayensu Ntim, National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), expressed gratitude for the CPC’s generosity and emphasized the party’s commitment to assisting victims in Ho and the coastal towns. He added that the government is prepared to work with local and international institutions to implement long-term measures to mitigate floods and tidal waves.
Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, received the relief items on behalf of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and expressed gratitude to the CPC, the Chinese government, and the people of China for their support. Madam Ivy Amewugah, the Regional Head of NADMO, noted that around 5,000 victims had been affected by the floods and tidal waves.
The event witnessed the presence of party stalwarts, including Dr. Charles Dwamena, NPP National Treasurer, Municipal and District Chief Executives, and staff from the Chinese Embassy. The relief items will be judiciously distributed to assist those affected by the disasters, and further support is being appealed for the affected communities.
