SES HD Plus, a premium high-definition satellite broadcast service provider, has taken a momentous step in empowering female corporate leaders by launching its maiden event, the “HD+ LeadHers Xperience,” in Accra. This initiative aims to provide a platform for women in Technology, Engineering, Sports, Government, Media, Security, and Education to amplify and empower each other, inspiring success and breaking barriers.
Mrs. Adelaide Abbiw-Williams, the Chief Executive Officer of SES HD Plus, expressed her enthusiasm for spearheading this initiative, which seeks to inspire young women to strive for greatness in their respective fields. Beyond motivation, the “HD+ LeadHers Xperience” aims to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of women who have risen above societal expectations and challenges to become leaders in their communities.
Addressing Gender Disparities: Inspiring Change and Equality Citing reports by the World Bank, Mrs. Abbiw-Williams highlighted the need to address the glaring gender disparities. The representation of women in various fields, including politics, remains disproportionately low, with only 24% of parliamentary seats across Africa occupied by women. Additionally, the Women in the Workplace report for 2022 revealed that for every 100 men promoted to manager level, only 87 women were promoted, underscoring the need for more support and empowerment of women in leadership roles.
Creating an Inclusive and Equitable World Mrs. Abbiw-Williams emphasized that empowering and supporting women in leadership roles fosters an environment that embraces fresh perspectives, creative solutions, and equal opportunities for all. The “HD+ LeadHers Xperience” aims to provide a space where phenomenal women share their experiences, inspiring others and fostering a more inclusive and equitable world.
LeadHers Accra: A Guiding Light for Women’s Potential In conjunction with the “HD+ LeadHers Xperience,” SES HD Plus launched LeadHers Accra, a Lean-In Circle designed to offer guidance and empower women to achieve their full potential. Madam Pan Macdonald, Chief People Officer at SES, South Africa, stressed the importance of females being catalysts for change and encouraged them to overcome obstacles with confidence. She emphasized the need for both men and women to work together to make a meaningful difference in society.
The esteemed speakers at the event included Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, former Minister of Education, Valeri Labi, Co-Founder and CEO of Wahu, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo, former Black Queens Coach, Dr. Lucy Agyepong, Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Academic City University College, and Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq), Director of Services at Ghana Prisons Service.
The “HD+ LeadHers Xperience” and LeadHers Accra represent vital initiatives in championing female empowerment, inspiring change, and paving the way for a more inclusive and equal society, where women’s voices and achievements are celebrated and uplifted.
