The vibrant and culturally rich town of Prampram in Ghana is gearing up for its much-anticipated Homowo festival, set to take place from August 3 to September 3, 2023. The festival’s theme, “Love and Unity,” reflects its essence in bringing together the people of Ningo-Prampram for communal development and to celebrate their shared heritage. Spearheaded by Nene Tetteh Wakah III, the Paramount Chief of Prampram Traditional Area, the festival promises an array of exciting activities and traditions that highlight the town’s deep-rooted values of peace, unity, and thanksgiving.
The launch of this year’s Homowo festival, held at the Forecourt of the Ningo-Prampram District Assembly, was jointly organized by the Ningo-Prampram Traditional Council and the Ningo-Prampram District Assembly. Attendees were treated to a glimpse of the festivities, which included a diverse range of events such as a clean-up exercise, cooking competition, fashion show, sprinkling of kpekple (a symbolic act of thanksgiving), football soccer gala, street carnival, canoe racing, card competition, health walk and screening, art and culture fair, Dangbe Quiz, and a thrilling marathon race.
Nene Tetteh Wakah III emphasized the significance of the Homowo celebration, urging forgiveness and unity among the natives of Ningo-Prampram for the town’s progress. He expressed his commitment to making the town even greater, harnessing its abundant resources for collective prosperity. The Chief of Afienya, Nene Afutu Nartey III, highlighted the festival’s focus on unity, emphasizing the importance of resolving disputes and maintaining peace. The Paramount Queen Mother of Prampram Traditional Area, Naa Osabu Abbey I, called upon both natives living abroad and within Greater Accra to come together and celebrate this joyous occasion, promoting unity and showcasing the town’s unique cultural identity.
With guests ranging from religious and traditional leaders to government officials and cultural dancers, the Homowo festival is expected to draw locals and visitors alike to experience the harmony, warmth, and tradition of Prampram. As the festival continues to evolve with updated activities, the collaboration between the traditional and governmental sectors plays a pivotal role in supporting the town’s development.
