The Union of Journalists for African Free Press (UJPLA) has issued a strong call to all parties involved in the conflicts in Niger to prioritize the safety and protection of journalists covering the insurrection. In a statement signed by UJPLA President, Mr. YAO Noël, the organization expressed concerns over the surveillance and close monitoring of military authorities on some journalists, which could potentially lead to threats and coercion against them.

UJPLA condemns any action that hinders or endangers the work of reporters in Niger and calls on all parties to guarantee the freedom of movement and safety of journalists working in the region. The organization emphasizes its support for reporters and the entire media community in Niger and commends the efforts of civil institutions in documenting possible violations of reporters’ rights.

Despite the challenges and risks, UJPLA urges all journalists in Niger to continue their profession with responsibility and professionalism, ensuring that they can carry out their crucial work in a safe environment.
