Mr. Maxwell Lukutor, the Parliamentary candidate-elect for the National Democratic Congress party in the South Tongu Constituency, has made a significant pledge to provide free eye screening and surgical operations for individuals facing severe and chronic eye challenges. Expressing concern about the lack of well-treated water sources in the constituencies, which has exposed community members to waterborne diseases and eye issues, Mr. Lukutor emphasized the need for politicians to prioritize the welfare of their constituents.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Lukutor stated that supporting people in need should be the primary focus of politics. He firmly believes that by helping individuals in the community to address their health challenges, they will be better positioned to support and engage in the political process. The initiative to offer free eye care services aims to improve the livelihoods of members in the various communities, irrespective of political affiliations.

Mr. Lukutor clarified that this endeavor is not merely a political campaign tactic, but a genuine effort to make a positive impact in the lives of the constituents. Highlighting his history of benevolent activities even before his election as a parliamentary candidate, he reiterated his commitment to ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of the community.

The eye screening program, scheduled to take place from August 7 to 11, 2023, will be carried out in collaboration with the South Tongu District Health Directorate, the South Tongu District Hospital, and with the support of Friends Eye Centre and Lifetime Wells Vision. Notably, the free eye care services will extend beyond the boundaries of the South Tongu constituency, as Mr. Lukutor’s ultimate goal is to offer assistance to as many individuals in need as possible.

With the backing of the public and unity among constituents, Mr. Maxwell Lukutor is determined to fulfill his promise and work towards building a better South Tongu Constituency, where the welfare of its people remains at the forefront of political endeavors.
