History of Aburi Girls’ Senior High School

Discover the rich history of Aburi Girls’ Senior High School, a Presbyterian boarding school for girls located in Ghana’s Eastern Region. Originally founded in 1946 with just seven students, the school’s roots can be traced back to 1852 when the Basel Missionaries established a primary school for girls at their mission station in Aburi. Over the years, the institution evolved, offering teacher-training programs in the 1920s and introducing secondary classes in 1946.

In 1950, when the Basel Mission and Scottish Mission departed, management was taken over by the Presbyterian Church of the Gold Coast (now Ghana). The school moved to its current location on the outskirts of Aburi in 1954 and continued to expand its offerings, introducing a Sixth Form after Form 5 classes in 1958. Today, Aburi Girls’ Senior High School follows a three-year senior high school program, shaping young minds and empowering generations of women.
