Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a former Minister for Trade and Industry and an aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position, asserts that he is the only candidate capable of helping the party break the pattern of eight-year political cycles. He also claims that if his ideas had been implemented, Ghana would not have needed to seek an International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout. Kyerematen made these statements during a campaign tour of the Greater Accra region, where he aimed to garner support from NPP delegates through cluster meetings. His campaign focuses on the Great Transformational Plan (GTP) as his key message. He urged the delegates not to be intimidated and to vote for him as the party’s leader. John Peter Amewu, the Minister for Railways and a member of Kyerematen’s campaign team, encouraged the delegates to choose a candidate who could lead the NPP to an easy victory in the 2024 election, highlighting Kyerematen as that candidate. The NPP plans to hold a special delegates conference to narrow down the number of candidates to five before the National Congress on November 4, where the final selection will be made from the approved candidates. Ten aspirants are currently vying for the position.
Alan Kyerematen believes he is the most qualified person to surpass the current record or achievement, emphasizing his confidence in his abilities.
