As drivers go on strike, Ghanaians transform into biblical Israelites ‘walking from Egypt to Canaan.’

Following an acrimonious strike by Driver Unions, many commuting Ghanaians are compelled to walk to their places of work this morning in several regions of the country, much like the Biblical Israelites on their Exodus from Egypt to the Promised Land of Canaan.

The Coalition of Commercial Transport Operators began an indefinite nationwide strike today, Monday, December 6, 2021, to protest the country’s high fuel prices.

This follows a week of wearing red arm bands by the drivers.

According to the operators, the government has ignored their request to eliminate some gasoline levies in order to lower prices, prompting their decision.

A general look around Accra’s streets reveals a large number of Ghanaians strolling to their various places of employment, while commercial cars are parked on the sides of the road.

Some of the country’s vehicle stations gave been turned into temporary football stations, as unbothered drivers and their conductors can be seen enjoying themselves to a treat of football while passengers look on helplessly.

Meanwhile, a solution is expected to be seen soon as Government has invited the leadership of the various driver unions for a closed door meeting to deliberate on the matter.
