Bawumia and Blair discuss the advantages of digitalization for Africa.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia have emphasized the importance of African leaders embracing digitalization as the surest way to improve the continent’s economies.

The two stressed that Ghana, and Africa as a whole, must view digitalization as a transformative tool that can improve citizens’ lives and conditions.

These discussions took place on Thursday, February 3 when former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair paid a visit to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at Jubilee House in Accra.

The meeting also addressed pressing global issues such as the devastating Covid-19 pandemic and its economic impact.

The discussions on COVID-19 focused on the difficult global economic situation caused by the pandemic and how countries around the world are putting in place measures to ameliorate the impact.

Mr. Blair and Dr. Bawumia discussed the role digitalization can play in Ghana and Africa as a whole to accelerate economic recovery and transformation.

Already, Dr. Bawumia is leading a digitalization drive in Ghana which is yielding positive fruits for key sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

Blair, who is a good friend of the Vice President served as UK Prime Minister from 2007 to 2017.

Currently, he is the Executive Chairman of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, a non-profit organisation he set up to help countries to address some of the most difficult challenges in the world.
