Be wary on social media to avoid online predators- BECE graduates told

Students who just completed the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been cautioned to be wary on social media in order not to fall prey to online predators. 

 
 Mr Hayford Mensah Tetteh, Headmaster of Winneba Senior High School who gave the advice at the 25th anniversary graduation ceremony of St. Paul Methodist Preparatory and Junior High School at Low Cost, in Winneba, tasked parents to monitor the online activities of their wards to protect them from paedophiles and other predators.

 
The event under the theme: “25 years of transforming lives through quality education, our story, our achievement, our future,” was interspersed with a ceremonial parade, cultural display, drama, poetry recitals, modelling, and choreography.

 
The colourful ceremony saw a total of 72 Kindergarten one and two pupils progressing to the next stage, given certificates and souvenirs while the 23 graduates of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) were also honoured with certificates and medals.

 
Mr Tetteh who was the Guest Speaker, congratulated the 2024 BECE class but reminded them that completing JHS was a transition with a lot of challenges which required them to stay focused and be obedient to their parents while they awaited their results.

 
He commended the management and teachers of the school for not only instilling in pupils and students book knowledge but also, Christian values.

 
He urged educators to employ 21st Century skills in teaching and learning to meet the current trend of education because education was now more child centered than the teacher, hence, the need to incorporate such skills in their endeavours. 

Mr Tetteh said educators had a very unique role to play to transform lives and that why the school continued to train and nurture the children who passed through it very well.

 
On pre-school, he said it was to build the educational foundation of children, thus much attention was needed to help give the kids a brighter future and urged teachers to do their job with dedication and love at that stage.

 
Miss Katena Acquah, Headmistress of the school earlier in her address thanked the Almighty God for bringing them to this far and expressed their gratitude to all who had contributed towards the progress of the school.

 
“We hope you will continue to use your limited resources to support your children in their education”, she added.

 
Very Rev. William Alfred Nyamekeh,  manager of the school said the achievements of the school in the past 25 years was commendable.

 
He noted that it had helped on transforming lives and appealed to parents and other stakeholders of further support for the provision of qualify education to the children.

 
Mr Ebo Morrison, member of the Methodist Church Ghana, who chaired the event applauded the Management, Teachers, and staff of the school for instilling the right moral values in the children.

   
He stated that the academic development of the child was a shared responsibility, saying while teachers continue to execute their duties in school, it behoves on parents to complement that effort by continuing from where they left off in their homes.

 
The requisite knowledge and skills taught will go a long way to help the children to become self-sufficient later in life, he added.
