An Accra Circuit Court has taken a significant step in the case against Mr. Alfred Danso Darkwah, a 39-year-old businessman accused of theft from Earlbeam Company Limited. The court issued a bench warrant for his arrest after Darkwah failed to appear for his plea on the charges of stealing a cash sum of £2,400 and GH₵60.00 from the company. The accused, who also held the position of Managing Director at Earlbeam Company Limited, had recently faced termination of his employment, leading to a dispute currently pending in a civil court.

According to the prosecution led by Superintendent of Police Augustus Yirenkyi, despite the ongoing legal dispute, Darkwah allegedly visited the company on June 14, 2023, and forcibly took £2,400 sterling from a client through the company’s accountant. The following day, he purportedly changed the company’s POS machine at the restaurant and used the new machine to collect GH₵60.00 from other clients. The company reported these incidents to the police, leading to the businessman’s subsequent arrest.

In a caution statement to the police during the investigation, Darkwah admitted to receiving both sums of money but justified his actions, claiming that the company owed him. However, as the case develops, the court awaits Darkwah’s appearance and adherence to the law, and the next hearing is scheduled for July 31, 2023, after the bench warrant is executed.
