Professor Ransford Gyampo, a Senior Lecturer at the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to take swift action in response to a leaked tape that alleges a plot to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP) ahead of the 2024 national election. Professor Gyampo emphasized the need for a statement from the presidency disassociating themselves from the contents of the tape. Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwah, called for a parliamentary probe into the matter, while Mr. Habib Iddriss expressed concern about the invasion of privacy caused by the leaked audio recording. Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, advised President Akufo-Addo not to comment on the tape. The Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, denied reports of a plot to remove the IGP and assured that the 2024 election would be peaceful. Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has directed the formation of a seven-member special committee to investigate the matter.
