A 42-year-old carpenter named Maxwell Senyo has been sentenced to four years imprisonment by the Adentan Circuit Court for biting off the right ear of a commercial driver during a dispute in Addoteiman, Accra. Senyo, charged with causing harm, pleaded guilty with an explanation. After hearing his explanation, the court, presided over by Mrs. Sedinam Awo Balokah, convicted Senyo based on his plea.

According to Inspector Eric Ransford Abban, the prosecutor in the case, the complainant, Anku Stephen, resides in Addoteiman, while the accused person, Senyo, also lives in the same area. On May 7, 2023, around 8:00 PM, the complainant and his girlfriend were sitting under a tree near Senyo’s wooden structure. Senyo approached them and asked if they were looking for him. The complainant replied in the negative, but Senyo insisted they leave the place or he would accuse the complainant of being a thief to his father. This led to a confrontation between Senyo and the complainant. During the scuffle, Senyo broke off a branch from the tree and struck the complainant. Both individuals fell to the ground, and Senyo sustained injuries to his cheeks. It was during this altercation that Senyo bit off the complainant’s right ear.

Police investigations revealed that Senyo bit off the complainant’s ear because the complainant was sitting close to his wooden structure. Senyo admitted to the offense during interrogation.
