Mr. Clifford Martey Korley, a 43-year-old philanthropist and entrepreneur and a Chartered Accountant, has submitted his nomination forms to contest the parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ledzokuku Constituency. He picked and filed his nomination forms on the same day, demonstrating his preparedness to lead the NPP and reclaim the Ledzokuku seat in the 2024 general elections.
Mr. Korley is among five aspirants who have picked their nomination forms since the Party opened nominations for its “orphan constituencies” on July 11, 2023. The Ledzokuku Constituency, one of the largest constituencies by population in the Greater Accra Region with about 110,000 voters, has been highly competitive, with no political party securing more than one term in Parliament since 1992.
In his address to journalists, Mr. Korley expressed concern about the challenges faced by the people of Teshie, including unemployment and insecurity. He pledged to work towards providing employment opportunities for the youth and promoting a positive image of the constituency. He emphasized his mission to showcase the hidden potential of Teshie to the world.
Mr. Ebenezer Doku, Chairman of the NPP Ledzokuku Elections Committee, received Mr. Korley’s forms on behalf of the Party. He congratulated Mr. Korley for being the first to file his nomination and called on all aspirants to conduct a clean campaign and foster unity before, during, and after the elections. As part of the process, all aspirants will be required to sign an undertaking to support the winning candidate to ensure victory for the NPP in 2024.
The filing of nominations will close on Thursday, August 10, with elections expected to be held from September to December this year. The NPP lost the Ledzokuku seat to the National Democratic Congress in the 2020 elections after regaining it in the 2016 general elections.
