The Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, Archbishop of the Perez Chapel International, has advised Christians against developing ‘spirits’ of pride and envy towards others, especially leaders of the Church.

He said many churches and pastors had been destroyed because of pride and envy from some members and leaders.

The Archbishop Agyinasare said this during the Church’s Sunday Service on the theme: “Hunting Savage Wolves: The Spirit of Absalom”.

He said needless pride, envy and overly ambitious were traits that destroyed, citing the Biblical case of Absalom exhibiting such character traits against his father King David.

He said Absalom in the Bible displayed those traits against his father’s throne, which later led to his death.

The Archbishop said Absalom was very talented and had an appealing character that drew people closer to him, however, due to pride and envy, he was destroyed by his own inflated ego and over ambitious nature.

“Absalom, just as some church members and pastors, was very over ambitious and envied his father’s throne. Ambition in itself is not wrong, but being overly ambitious is wrong.”

“Many churches and organisations have gone down due to some of these things.

These traits are very dangerous, since they seek to rob shoulders with legitimate leaders and authorities with aim of taking over,” he added.

The Archbishop Agyinasare admonished Christians to always support their leaders instead of thinking to overtake them.

He said they could influence the change they sought or perceived in their own small corners and not think they could only do that when they were at the apex of leadership.
