The Management of the Clement Kubindiwo Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS), has appealed to the government to complete all Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) projects on its campus.

The management noted that there were some critical uncompleted GETFund infrastructural projects on its campus, which needed to be completed urgently to improve academic activities.

Professor Albert Luguterah, the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University, made the appeal on behalf of management at the fifth matriculation ceremony for 1,389 candidates for the 2024/2025 academic year.

He emphasised that as a Technology and Applied Sciences University, well-equipped laboratories were essential for practical work and simulations.

“Despite the growth in student numbers, we are taking urgent steps to temporarily solve the inadequate lecture halls and furniture while gathering resources for permanent solutions.

“We also aspire to house most first-year students in university-owned accommodations but are currently hindered by infrastructure deficits,” Professor Luguterah said.

He reiterated the management’s appeal to government, appealling for the completion of all GETFund projects on the institution’s campus and to consider its critical and peculiar critical infrastructure needs when allocating resources.

The VC was hopeful that after management’s engagements with the government, the uncompleted projects would be addressed in the shortest possible time.

He said despite management’s financial constraints, “we have awarded a contract worth over GH¢1,500,000.00 to the Ghanaian Academic and Research Network (GARNET) to enhance Information and Communications Technology infrastructure and internet connectivity across the campus.

Prof. Luguterah added that “while work on our modern computer laboratory is presently ongoing, steps to procure over 1,500 modern study desks and chairs for our students are in process.

This is intended to give our students better furnishing to reflect our status as a university,” he said.

He assured the university community and its stakeholders that management would continue to allocate resources to improve the working atmosphere and service delivery and contribute to the institution’s goal of building a world-class university.

He told the freshmen and women that “Our faculty and support staff are among the best, and I encourage you to focus on your training and become competitive graduates, despite our current infrastructure challenges.”

He encouraged them to take advantage of the resources and support systems available, engage actively in their studies, participate in extracurricular activities, and build meaningful relationships since such experiences would enrich their academic journey and prepare them for a successful future.

Professor Luguterah expressed gratitude to their collaborators and supporters, especially the Navrongo Health Research Centre (NHRC) for its continuous support in providing laboratory space and facilities for the university’s students and further agreed to support the university renovate its School of Public Health building.
