COVID-19: Free water for Ghanaians ends on June 30th

Government’s free water for Ghanaians for a period of three months ends on Tuesday, June 30th, 2020.Following the COVID-19 containment measures such as the partial lockdown, border closures, and social distancing that were announced by government in the wake of the novel Coronavirus outbreak in the country,  government absorbed the bills of low-income consumers of water in the country for April, May and June, 2020 in its quest to bring relief to Ghanaians.

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in a statement sent out a reminder about the end of the intervention on Monday, June 29, 2020.

The statement noted that, “The month of June marks the end of the government’s directive to the Ghana Water Company Limited to serve Ghanaians with water for free as part of measures to curb the rapid spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Customers of GWCL must please note, that from henceforth, the payment of water bills will be the responsibility of the customer.”
