The Volta Regional Directorate of Health has destroyed a total of 12,780 doses of several COVID-19 vaccines that were discovered to be expired in November.
Dr Senanu Kwesi Djokoto, the Deputy Director of Health (DDH) in charge of public health, told the Ghanaian Times in Ho on Friday.
He linked the vaccines’ expiration to a lack of public acceptability of the coronavirus vaccine, particularly among the region’s youth.
Because the vaccines were not being used, they stayed in stock until they expired, according to the Deputy Director.
“The Volta Region has a lower vaccination coverage rate than the national average, which is really disappointing,” Dr Djokoto remarked.
