The Member of Parliament (MP) for Krachi West constituency, Madam Helen Adjoa Ntoso, has expressed concern over the low number of females, who participated in the two-day vetting exercise for Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) positions in the Oti Region.
Â
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), she revealed that less than 10 females participated in the exercise, a number she described as disappointing.
Â
“The low turnout of women in the vetting exercise is a worrying trend that needs to be addressed, women’s participation in decision making processes is crucial for the growth and prosperity of our communities,” she added.
Â
The MP attributed the low participation to various challenges, including cultural and societal barriers, lack of support and resources and limited opportunities for women’s empowerment.Â
Madam Ntoso urged stakeholders and the society to create an enabling environment that encourages women to participate in politics and take up leadership positions.
Â
She again called on the government, traditional authorities and civil society organisations, to work together to address these challenges and promote gender equality in the region.
Â
She added that by promoting women’s participation in leadership, the Oti Region can tap into the unique perspectives and skills that women bring to the table, ultimately driving growth and development.Â
