Germany and Italy have both expressed support for the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara, emphasizing their backing for the UN-led political process and the search for a realistic and lasting solution. Germany’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Annalena Baerbock, reiterated her country’s support for the autonomy plan, considering it a serious and credible effort by Morocco and a good basis for a solution accepted by all parties. Italy, through its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, commended Morocco’s efforts and reforms, expressing support for the UN Secretary-General’s pursuit of a political solution based on compromise. Both countries stressed the importance of the UN’s exclusive role in the political process and highlighted the relevance of UN Security Council resolutions in guiding the negotiations. These statements reflect the international community’s recognition of Morocco’s efforts in addressing the Sahara issue and their commitment to a diplomatic resolution under the auspices of the United Nations.
