Mr. Mustapha Ussif, the Minister of Youth and Sports, recently expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to host an outstanding Africa Games next year. During a working tour of the facilities designated for the quadrennial Games in Accra, the Minister, accompanied by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), assessed the progress of the facilities for the multi-sport event.
Mr. Ussif reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering world-class facilities and ensuring the success of the African Games. He commended the efforts of the LOC, the University of Ghana, and other stakeholders involved in the preparations for the Accra 2023 games.
The Minister praised the quality of the facilities at the University of Ghana, emphasizing their adherence to international standards. He expressed confidence that, with the continued dedication and support of all parties involved, Ghana would host an outstanding African Games.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana affirmed the institution’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for high-level sports performance and athlete accommodation. She highlighted the fruitful partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the university’s determination to leave a lasting legacy of sporting excellence and camaraderie through the African Games.
The 13th African Games is expected to attract participants and spectators from across the continent. Ghana has adopted a hybrid approach to hosting the games, utilizing existing facilities at the University of Ghana while constructing new facilities at Borteyman. The ongoing construction and rehabilitation of the university’s sports facilities will provide cutting-edge amenities, including FIFA-standard stadiums, modern training centers, rugby pitches, and comfortable athlete accommodations.
The African Games are scheduled to take place from Friday, March 8, to Saturday, March 23, 2024.
