Van Calebs, a renowned Ghanaian choreographer and socialite, believes that promoting Ghana’s dance culture to people in the diaspora can significantly contribute to boosting tourism in the country. Drawing from his experiences traveling worldwide for various dance shows, Van Calebs has noticed a consistent fascination among foreigners with Ghanaian dance culture.

He specifically mentions cultural dances like Agbedza, Adowa, Kete, and Apatampa as particularly captivating to foreigners, who express a genuine desire to learn more about them. Van Calebs emphasizes the need for the government to invest in Ghana’s dance culture and other cultural elements, such as music, to showcase the nation’s beautiful culture to the world.

Van Calebs recognizes the significant role that Ghanaian dance has played in driving tourism in the country and believes that it deserves more attention, particularly in terms of exportation. He calls for support for cultural troupes and dance groups, enabling them to perform at the highest level and thrive in Ghanaian dance culture.

Moreover, Van Calebs highlights that a significant number of Ghanaians born in the diaspora are not well acquainted with their own culture, particularly the dance culture. Therefore, efforts to educate and engage the diaspora population about Ghana’s cultural heritage can foster a stronger connection and appreciation for the country’s dance traditions.

Van Calebs is set to host an international choreography festival later this year, providing a platform for the finest dance troupes from around the world to showcase their talent. This event aims to celebrate and promote cultural exchange through dance.
