Global business leaders recognize Ghana’s economy is improving – Akufo-Addo

According to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the global business community recognizes that the Ghanaian economy is recovering to pre-COVID-19 levels.

He made this remark after commissioning Nestlé Ghana’s 175.4 million state-of-the-art plant in Tema on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.

The plant produces infant cereals for the domestic market as well as other countries in Central and West Africa.

In a Facebook post following the event, Mr Akufo-Addo stated, “This investment by a major multinational company not only underscores Nestlé and its shareholders’ confidence in the Ghanaian economy, but it is also a signal to the global business community that the Ghanaian economy is recovering to pre-COVID-19 levels.”

Mr Akufo-Addo has over the past months recounted how the Covid pandemic has devastated the Ghanaian economy just as other economies globally.

 He however said recently that the recovery programmes instituted but his government were credible and yielding results.

“In Ghana, the recovery programme we have is very credible and that is what is going to give us the opportunity to come out of this period a stronger economy, and it is that future we are looking at,” he said.

He also touted the economic progress of the oil-producing West African nation when speaking in an interview with the BBC on Monday April 4 but when his attention was drawn to the woes of the local currency, he said “I don’t know the economy in the world that is doing well.

“The Cedi has begun to firm up. The world is going through a difficult [moment], Ghana is no exception, Nigeria is no exception. There is no country in the world that is escaping the ravages of Covid-19 and also the impact of the [Russia-Ukraine conflict].”
