The Volta Regional Directorate of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), has successfully restored water supply to Ho and its environs, bringing the much-needed relief after more than a month of water shortages.

The water began flowing from household taps in parts of Ho, early on Sunday, February 9, 2025, following extensive repairs on the faulty pump at the Kpeve Headworks.

During the outage, many residents struggled to secure water.

Mr Ebenezer Wornyo, a resident of Lokoe, told the Ghana News Agency that he woke up early, filled all his storage containers, and prayed that the pump would remain unharmed.

Similarly, Mr Hope Demanya, expressed his relief, explaining that he had arranged for borehole water on the previous Saturday, but thanks to a heavy downpour that same day, he was able to store enough water until the taps resumed.

In a public notice issued by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission on Saturday, February 8, the Commission confirmed that it had received an update from GWCL regarding the successful repair work at the Kpeve Headworks.

According to the notice, water production resumed at approximately 1852 hours on February 8, 2025.

However, due to dried pipelines in some areas, it was expected to take an average of five to six hours for consumers to receive water at their homes.

This restoration effort fulfills a commitment made by Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, who earlier on assured residents that the water supply would be restored over the weekend, while they awaited the installation of a new pump scheduled for replacement in March.

In the interim, the Minister directed that water be supplied to essential institutions to keep body and soul running.

The successful repair and restoration of the water supply marked a significant step forward in addressing the prolonged water crisis in Ho, ensuring that residents could once again access clean, reliable water for their daily needs.
