Harnessing Sports for Economic Growth: Bono East Regional Minister Calls for National Focus

In a compelling address at the Bono East Regional Sports Festival for Senior High Schools (SHSs), Mr. Kwasi Adu-Gyan, the Bono East Regional Minister, underscored the significance of prioritizing sports development as a key avenue to generate additional financial resources for national growth. He emphasized the potential of identifying and nurturing sporting talents to not only attract foreign currencies but also foster national identity and unity, creating a strong foundation for foreign investments and developmental initiatives to flourish in the country. Mr. Adu-Gyan drew examples from countries like Brazil, Germany, and Spain, highlighting how their emphasis on sporting disciplines facilitated their overall national development agendas.

The Regional Minister urged Bono East and Ghana, in general, to place a premium on promoting sporting activities to boost the country’s economy further. He addressed participating schools and students, encouraging them to remain focused and exhibit sportsmanship while strictly adhering to instructions and authority on the field. Mr. Adu-Gyan reiterated the Regional Coordinating Council’s commitment to supporting sports development in the region, with the aim of showcasing the rich culture and positive reputation of Bono East to the world.

Alhaji Adams Muazu, the Regional Sports Coordinator, explained that the festival aimed to select a formidable team in various disciplines to represent the region at the upcoming national sports festival in Takoradi. To support the competition, the Regional Minister generously provided 12 sets of jerseys and 18 footballs, ensuring a successful and spirited event with 36 SHSs participating across six zones in the region.
