A delegation of eleven members led by Mr. Sylvester Turner, the Mayor of Houston, Texas, USA, paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Accra to explore areas of trade and investment. The delegation’s eight-day visit to Ghana aims to identify opportunities and strengthen existing political ties between Ghana and Houston. Mr. Turner highlighted the delegation’s goal to build on the relationship and explore collaboration in various sectors, representing a smaller portion of the larger 30-member delegation.

The visiting delegation includes officials from the Texas Medical Center, Houston Port Authority, Houston Airport System, Technology and Innovation Sector, Houston Sports Authority, General Business Community, and the Energy Sector. The focus is on establishing mutually beneficial partnerships between the two cities.

Mayor Elizabeth Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey of Accra praised the collaboration, emphasizing the potential to promote arts and culture, tourism, investment, and education for mutual benefits. She also highlighted the Accra Assembly’s commitment to women and children’s empowerment, as well as creating opportunities for persons with disabilities.

As part of Accra’s efforts to promote environmental consciousness, the city plans to install the first climate clock in the Central Business District. The clock will serve as a reminder of the limited time left for humanity to prevent global warming from rising above 1.5°C. The Mayor called for collective support to maintain a clean and beautiful city.
