Mrs Eunice Lasi, the 2020 parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Sege constituency, has filed her nomination to contest the seat for this year’s election as an independent candidate.

She was escorted by scores of constituents carrying placards expressing their support for her candidature.

Ms Lasi resigned from the NPP some months ago after alleging that the party executives sabotaged her in the 2020 elections.

She told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that she was happy to be accepted by the electoral commission to partake in the parliamentary race.

According to her, her focus was on the development of the Sege constituency, as she had been with the people and knew their needs, adding that she had cordial relations with women, children, traders, fishermen, farmers, fishmongers, drivers, okada riders, and everyone.

The independent candidate expressed gladness to be the only woman contesting against the candidates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dodzie Numekervor and Daniel Keshi Bessey, respectively.

She expressed optimism about being declared the member of parliament elected for the Sege after the December 7 election, as she was capable of managing the affairs of the constituency better than the other contestants.

Mr. Stephen Oppong, Ada West District Officer of the Electoral Commission, who received the forms, told journalists that three persons had submitted their nominations as of Wednesday.

He called on the candidates to embark on a peaceful electioneering campaign devoid of personal attacks and the use of abusive language and urged them to present their agents to be trained by the commission ahead of the December polls.
