The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) reaffirms its commitment to collaborate with the Japanese government to promote peace and security in Africa. Major General Richard Addo Gyane, the Commandant of KAIPTC, recently paid a courtesy call on the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Kwesi Hisanobu Mochizuki, at the Japanese embassy in Accra to strengthen ties with key stakeholders in defense, peace, and security.

Expressing gratitude to the Government of Japan for its continuous support, Maj. Gen. Gyane emphasized that Japan’s assistance has contributed significantly to maintaining peace, security, and sustainable development in Africa. He provided an update on the Centre’s strategic plan, which began in 2019 and is set to conclude in 2023. Additionally, he disclosed that a new strategic plan for 2024 is in development, aiming to create a defined and sustainable roadmap for peace and security in the region over the next five years. He emphasized the importance of including all development partners, including Japan, to contribute to the new strategic plan.

Ambassador Mochizuki applauded KAIPTC’s pivotal role in ensuring peace and security in Africa and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to support the Centre in addressing emerging security challenges on the continent. Prof. Kwesi Aning, Director of the Faculty of Academic Affairs & Research at KAIPTC, also commended the Japanese government for its proactive approach in identifying and addressing challenges on the continent.

Ms. Horname Noagbesenu, Director of Policy Planning Monitoring and Evaluation, shared KAIPTC’s outlook for the next five years, emphasizing a focus on empowering women and youth economically, socially, and politically to enable them to play effective roles in the peacebuilding process.

The collaboration between KAIPTC and the Japanese government holds great promise for advancing peace and security in Africa, and with the inclusion of development partners, the Centre aims to foster a stronger and more sustainable approach to peacebuilding on the continent.
