The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region has rejected the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) recent assertion that it aims to secure about 500,000 votes in the upcoming December 7 elections.
The NDC labeled this target as “laughable” and indicative of the NPP’s disconnect from the realities of the region.
Richard Ahiagba, the NPP’s National Communications Director, made the bold claim, suggesting that the party could capture nearly half of the 1,023,147 registered voters in the region.
However, the NDC argues that such projections are far-fetched, pointing to the party’s historical performance in the region.
According to the NDC, the NPP has consistently failed to meet its own ambitious targets, achieving only 10.81% of the presidential vote in 2016 and improving it to 14.14% in 2020.
Sorkpa Kafui Agbleze, NDC Volta Regional Communications Officer, in a press release, criticised the NPP for its “overpromising and underperforming” record, and highlighted that the party has struggled to gain significant support in the region over the past decade.
The release stated, “The people of the Volta Region, who have endured enough from the NPP’s economic mismanagement, are well aware that promises from this administration mean very little.”
According to the release, the NDC remains confident in its stronghold in the Volta Region and urged the public to dismiss what it describes as the NPP’s unrealistic goals and focus instead on the pressing economic challenges facing the nation.
As the election approaches, the NDC calls on the people of the region to recognise the NPP’s historical failures and to continue supporting the party that they believe truly represents their interests.
The debate over electoral projections continues as both parties gear up for the elections, with the NDC emphasising the importance of addressing real issues rather than engaging in “fantasy targets”.
