The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has retained the Sege Constituency seat after its candidate, Mr Daniel Keshi Bessey, polled 18,718 out of the 32,333 total votes cast.

The New Patriotic Party’s several attempts to unseat the NDC have proven futile over three decades.

Mr Stephen Oppong, the returning officer for the constituency declaring the results on Sunday, announced that the NPP’s candidate, Mr Dodzi Numekevor, attained 7,313 votes, and Eunice Lasi, the independent candidate, also had 5,827, while 475 rejected votes were recorded.

Mr Christian Corletey Otuteye, incumbent member of parliament, was beaten by Daniel Keshi Bessey in the NDC primaries held in 2023 to be the party’s candidate in the parliamentary elections.

Eunice Lasi, who contested the seat in 2020 on the ticket of the NPP, resigned from the party after she alleged that the constituency executives were sabotaging her efforts.

The presidential results of the Sege Constituency for 2024 also had the NPP attaining 5,464 votes; GCPP-37; GFP – 0; GUM – 65; LPG – 13; NDP – 13; CPP – 133; NDC – 25,284; APC – 61; Kofi Koranten – 5; Barima-Adu – 8; Nana Kwame Bediako – 156 and Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremateng – 71.

Total valid ballots for the presidential election were 31,310, total rejected ballots were 1,006, and total votes cast were 32,316.
