On Wednesday, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held a crucial balloting event at its headquarters in Accra, where the presidential aspirants selected spots on the ballot sheets in preparation for the party’s Special Electoral College elections on August 26, 2023. This electoral process marks the first leg of the party’s internal election to determine the presidential candidate for the 2024 general election.

The balloting results revealed the order in which the aspirants would appear on the ballot sheets. Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, secured the number one spot, followed by Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen in the second position, and Joe Ghartey in the third spot.

The remaining positions were picked by Kwadwo Poku, an Energy Expert (fourth), Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto (fifth), Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong (sixth), Francis Addai Nimoh (seventh), Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku (eighth), and Mr. Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko (ninth). Vice President Bawumia took the tenth position on the ballot.

The NPP has scheduled August 26, 2023, for its Special Electoral College elections, during which the field of presidential aspirants will be narrowed down from 10 to five, leading up to the National Congress in November.

In order to maintain a fair and orderly process, the party has issued a stern warning to all presidential candidates and their supporters to adhere to the code of conduct. Failure to comply with the guidelines and modalities or engaging in conduct that tarnishes the party’s reputation may result in disqualification from the primaries.

With the stakes high and the race narrowing down, the NPP’s electoral process promises to be a defining moment as the party determines its presidential candidate to contest in the 2024 general election.
