The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary Vetting Committee, composed of nine members, has submitted its report to the Party. The committee, chaired by former Speaker of Parliament Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, presented the report to the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

The committee was responsible for vetting all ten flagbearer aspirants who are seeking to lead the NPP in the upcoming 2024 general election. Mr. Osei Bonsu Amoah, spokesperson for the committee, confirmed that their work has been completed and there were no petitions filed against the committee or any of the aspirants.

The vetting process, which is a crucial step in the NPP’s presidential primary procedures, took place from July 3 to July 6, 2023. Among the aspirants seeking the NPP’s presidential nomination are Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Joe Ghartey, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, and former General Secretary of the Party Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

The other aspirants include Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central; Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, former MP for Offinso North; Boakye Agyarko, former Energy Minister; Kojo Opoku, an Energy Expert; and Francis Addai-Nimoh, former Member of Parliament for Mampong.

The NPP will now review the report submitted by the Vetting Committee to inform its decision-making process regarding the flagbearer for the 2024 General Election.
