The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Redemption Congregation, marked its 2023 health week celebration by organizing a free health screening event for its members. In partnership with Sinel Specialist Hospital, the congregation facilitated an extensive health screening initiative that provided over 200 participants with valuable health insights.

The health screening encompassed a range of essential assessments, including body mass index (BMI) measurements, blood pressure readings, blood glucose tests, and malaria tests. Additionally, as part of the initiative, members of the Men’s Fellowship received complimentary prostate cancer screening. Attendees also had the opportunity to engage in one-on-one consultations with medical professionals, addressing their individual health-related concerns.

Mr. Emmanuel Atiemo, the Chairman of the Development and Social Services (DSS) committee of the church, highlighted that the screening revealed that some participants had elevated blood pressure levels. Those identified with health concerns, along with others in need of screening and medical attention, were referred for follow-up care at the collaborating hospital.

Mr. Atiemo, who also serves as a Presbyter of the church, emphasized that the primary goal of the screening was to proactively assess the health status of church members, enabling the early detection of potential health issues. He underlined the importance of such preventive measures in maintaining well-being.

Furthermore, Mr. Atiemo disclosed that the church’s internal medical team would conduct monthly health screening exercises to detect early signs of illnesses and provide necessary referrals. In addition to these regular screenings, the congregation plans to host comprehensive annual screenings through external partners.

Mr. Atiemo concluded by advising Christians to prioritize their health by consistently monitoring their blood pressure and sugar levels, as well as engaging in regular exercise to enhance overall well-being.
