Prudential Life Insurance Ghana has taken a significant step towards making insurance more accessible to individuals in the informal sector of the economy with its microinsurance product, ‘Mekakrawa.’ The innovative product aims to empower traders and others in the informal sector to proactively plan and prepare for their future while safeguarding themselves against various risks, including permanent disability, natural and accidental death, and critical illness.
In an activation event at the Okaishie Market, Accra, Dr. Hazel Berrard Amuah, CEO of Prudential Life, highlighted the company’s commitment to developing innovative insurance products that cater to the needs of Ghanaians across different income brackets. The ‘Mekakrawa’ microinsurance is designed to bridge the insurance gap and provide individuals and their families with a reliable safety net against unforeseen circumstances.
To educate and empower more Ghanaians, especially those in the informal sector, Prudential Life organized a procession through key streets, with brand ambassadors like Mr. Fred Amugi, Kojo Nkansah ‘Lilwin,’ and Afronita actively engaging with potential clients. The brand ambassadors emphasized that insurance is not solely for the elites and encouraged traders to sign up for the ‘Mekakrawa’ policy to secure their future.
The microinsurance policy offers a low barrier to entry, with a minimum subscription of GHS3.00 and a maximum option of GHS45.00. In a gesture to demonstrate accessibility, Kojo Nkansah paid for one-year subscriptions for ten head porters using the GHS45 option, aiming to inspire others in the informal sector to take insurance seriously for their future. ‘Mekakrawa’ stands as a testament to Prudential Life’s commitment to the Ghanaian community, providing them with a reliable safety net for a more protected tomorrow.
