The Sefwi-Asafo College of Health Services in the Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region held its first-ever graduation ceremony, where 308 General Nursing and Nutrition practitioners graduated. The event was marked by the theme “Quality Health Training, The Role of Stakeholders,” highlighting the crucial role played by various stakeholders in shaping the future of healthcare in the country.
Mrs. Susana Yaa Aframa Arkah, Principal of the College, expressed gratitude to the Regional and District Health directorates of the Western North Region, Sefwi-Wiawso Traditional Council, Bank of Ghana, BUADAC group of companies, RAYCOF Company, and other partners for their support in improving infrastructure and educational amenities. The college witnessed an 80 percent increase in admission rates in the past year while maintaining the utmost quality in education.
The graduates were commended for their high value among health facilities and renowned hospitals across the country, reflecting the diligence of the college’s teaching staff and the effectiveness of the curriculum. The college aims to continue enhancing infrastructure, including upgrading the skills laboratory, expanding the library resources, and investing in technology.
Professor Elvis Ofori Ameyaw, Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), highlighted UCC’s mentorship role in guiding the Sefwi-Asafo College of Health Services. He advised the graduates to recognize the power of compassion and empathy in their patient care and encouraged them to abide by the oath to care for the sick and vulnerable.
Mr. Vincent Abakah, Board Chairman of the college, emphasized the significant impact of dedicated stakeholders on healthcare services in communities. He urged the graduates to carry the torch of excellence and compassion, using their acquired skills and knowledge to serve humanity. Mr. Abakah praised the faculty members for their commitment to fostering critical thinking and passion in shaping outstanding healthcare professionals.
The ceremony concluded with congratulations to the graduands, encouraging them to become ambassadors of quality healthcare for the nation.
