A bench warrant has been issued by an Accra Circuit Court for the arrest of a 40-year-old teacher, accused of forging documents for his promotion.
Atta Boadi Senior has been charged for forging of official documents and altering of documents.
He is supposed to be brought to the Court presided over by Mr Isaac Oheneba-Kuffour on September 18, 2023.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector John Gohoho told the Court that Mr Alex Dankwa, the complainant, was a staff at the Headquarters of Ghana Education Service (GES) as Boadi, the accused person, was a teacher with the grade of Senior Superintendent Two and stationed at Subrisu District Assembly Primary School in the Eastern Region.
He said on July 31, 2023, the accused presented a letter purported to have been sent to him from the GES, stating that he had been promoted to the grade of Assistant Director Two, to officials at the Headquarters of the GES for him to be promoted to the grade of Assistant Director Two.
Chief Inspector Gohoho said the letter was forwarded to the Complainant for processing.
He said the Complainant after vetting the letter, detected that it had been forged hence the promotion was not effected, adding that on August 01, 2023, the accused person went to the GES’ Headquarters with a copy of the letter to follow up on the promotion and when he was questioned about the letter, he failed to disclosed where he got the letter and took to his heels.
He was apprehended and the letter retrieved from him and handed over to Police, the Court heard.
Prosecution said investigations disclosed that the GES generated a list of candidates due for promotion, thereafter, the candidates were made to write an exam after which a database of successful candidates was compiled, notified in writing and then promoted to the appropriate grade.
Chief Inspector Gohoho said further investigation disclosed that the accused was not due for promotion and did not go through the process stated above.
