South African singer Tyla was awarded Best New Artiste at the BET Awards 2024, dubbed as “culture’s biggest night.”

Known for her catchy pop tunes and energetic performances, Tyla stood out at this year’s event.

Her debut single, “Water,” became a huge hit, highlighting her unique mix of pop, R&B, and Afrobeat.

In her acceptance speech, Tyla thanked her fans, family, and the BET community.

She said, “Oh my gosh, this is crazy, and this is also very heavy. First of all, I love Sexyy Red.

I love her so much.

This is such a gift to be here.

I want to dedicate this to Africa and all the African superstars before me who didn’t get these opportunities.

This is amazing. Africa to the world, guys.”

Tyla also delivered a stunning performance of her song “Jump,” featuring US rapper Gunna and Jamaican dancehall DJ Skillibeng.

Her act included dancers in tiger print bodysuits, a nod to her fanbase, the Tygers, as well as a giant elephant statue and performers on stilts.

The BET Awards, established in 2001 by Black Entertainment Television, honor black and underrepresented people in entertainment.

This year’s ceremony took place at the Peacock Theatre in California.
