The Volta Regional Acting Director of Health Service, Dr. Senanu Kwesi Dzokoto, has urged individuals who have not yet received the COVID-19 vaccine to get vaccinated. Speaking at the Volta Regional launch of the National COVID-19 Vaccination Day Campaign, Dr. Dzokoto emphasized the importance of taking the vaccine to protect oneself from contracting and suffering the effects of the virus. He highlighted the impact of the pandemic, including loss of lives, disruptions to health services, and economic challenges. Dr. Dzokoto also expressed concern about vaccine hesitancy, stating that less than half of Ghana’s population has received a single dose of the vaccine. He encouraged people in the Volta Region to participate in the upcoming vaccination campaign to increase the region’s vaccination rate. Dr. Dzokoto revealed that the region had recorded 40 new COVID-19 cases in the first half of 2023, with a majority of the cases reported in the Ho Municipality.
