In a bid to guide and groom talents for the next generation, 50 staff members of the Volta River Authority (VRA) recently participated in the “Employees Volunteer Programme” (EVP) at Ahantaman Girls Senior High School in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, Western Region.
During the EVP event, VRA employees from various departments interacted with the students and conducted well-structured informative sessions. The programme covered a range of topics, including career guidance and counseling, ICT education, boot camps, and practical learning, aimed at helping students make informed choices regarding their career paths.
Mr. Samuel Kwesi Fletcher, the Manager in Charge of Corporate Social Responsibility, expressed his hope that EVP would expose students to real-world experiences, making it easier for them to select their desired career fields. He emphasized that the programme was part of VRA’s commitment to giving back to the community through education.
Mr. Fletcher highlighted the importance of catching students at a young age, especially in the era of the ICT revolution. He mentioned that VRA operates a gender policy with an equal balance of male and female employees, particularly in the engineering arena, as a way to showcase gender equality.
The Headmistress of Ahantaman Girls SHS, Mrs. Ernestina Kankam, expressed excitement about the school being selected for the EVP. She praised the programme, stating that having VRA staff mentor students about future careers was a laudable initiative. The school’s hallmark is academic excellence, which they aim to achieve by combining quality education with a focus on the God factor in everything they do.
The EVP at Ahantaman Girls SHS was part of the school’s 75th-anniversary activities, making it the 19th school selected for this impactful programme by VRA.
Through such initiatives, VRA continues to invest in the education and development of future generations, contributing to the growth and success of the community and the country as a whole.
